The second half of the 2026 Annual General Meeting was given over to the members themselves. Delegates worked through the Sacco's performance line by line, comparing growth in deposits against growth in the loan book and asking how both translate into returns for individual schools.

Growth in numbers, growth in trust

Reports presented at the meeting showed steady month-on-month growth in member deposits, driven largely by directors who moved from occasional contributions to fixed monthly savings. The board emphasised that consistency, not size, is what builds borrowing power.

Recruitment was described as the Sacco's biggest single opportunity. Every new APBET school that joins strengthens the common pool that the rest of the membership borrows from.

Governance commitments

  • Quarterly reporting to members on savings, loans and arrears
  • Clear separation between board oversight and day-to-day management
  • Documented loan appraisal criteria applied uniformly to all applicants
  • Continued compliance with co-operative regulation and annual external audit

What members were asked to do

Three requests were made of every delegate: keep monthly contributions on schedule, bring at least one new school director into membership before the next AGM, and update contact details with the secretariat so statements and notices reach the right person.
